15/06/2011 - The F3 Cup bursts back into life this weekend on 16/17 July when the series heads to the challenging Brands Hatch Indy circuit for round five of the season.
It's been nearly a month since the F3 Cup ventured to the iconic Belgian Spa Francorchamps for the last round of the series and the racing is set to intensify at the famous Kent circuit.
Kent born driver Aaron Steele has been the dominant force in the F3 Cup so far this season and he will once again aim to impress in front of his home crowd this weekend. The 22-year-old claimed two class wins and an outright victory at Spa last month, with a drive the Rochester man described as the best of his career. With the FIA Formula Two Championship test drive still up for grabs at the end of the season, he is eager to continue his impressive form at Brands Hatch. Another local man hoping his home circuit will help him to a strong result is Mark Terry.
Steele said: "Things are better than ever really. Since Spa we have taken the car apart and put some updates on it. The car is looking as good as it has ever looked and off the back of a fantastic win at Spa my confidence is sky high. Brands Hatch is my home circuit and I can take advantage of that. I work there a lot as an instructor so that will help. It should be a great weekend. A win is the target for sure."
After securing a podium finish at Spa, Dave Karaskas heads into Brands Hatch on a high and he is determined to continue his run of good form, at a circuit he claims is his "spiritual home".
"I had a really good race at Spa and I'm really looking forward to racing at Brands Hatch," said Dave. "It's my favourite circuit and I think it is my spiritual home, so hopefully I will be on the pace and we will see what we can do. I've got a new car for this year and I'm still learning, but I got a really good result in Spa and I will be looking for a podium at least. The weather forecast is not great but I love racing in the rain."
The F3 Cup grid will be joined by two new faces in the shape of Tony Bishop, who will be driving the Omicron run Dallara F302, and current Formula 4 championship leader Robbie Watts in his Lola.
Bishop, who is booked up to compete in all of the remaining rounds this year, said: "I like Brands and it is great circuit but the weather forecast for the weekend is rain, so I'm a little worried but it might even things up a bit."
"The appeal of using F3 at a reduced budget has attracted me to the series", said Watts. "We are going to be a bit down on power but we will work through the rest of the year and try and get it up to speed."
