Dittmann overjoyed with first career title and F2 test
28/10/12 - New F3 Cup champion Chris Dittmann admitted it will take some time for his success to sink in and is already looking forward to his FIA Formula Two test reward.
Chris Dittmann became the inaugural F3 Cup champion after capping a fine season with a measured drive in the final round at the Snetterton 300 circuit on Sunday 28 October.
The 23-year-old from Tewkesbury, made history by claiming the inaugural F3 Cup championship, run by MSVR, with a Trophy class victory in tricky damp conditions at the Norfolk venue. By becoming champion, he has been rewarded with a prestigious FIA Formula Two test prize.
Dittmann, who runs the Chris Dittmann Racing team, was involved in a three-way title deciding final round with Snetterton local Tristan Cliffe and Italian Gino Ussi, but he just about did enough. He finished seventh overall and first in class to take the title in race one. The former Ginetta racer has been a regular on the podium throughout the 18 races this season, enjoying an outright race victory at Silverstone National in May.
Coupled with the honour of becoming the first F3 Cup champion and picking up his first championship title, he is eagerly awaiting the chance to test an FIA Formula Two car. The moment is arguably his career highlight and Chris revealed it will take time for the enormity of what he has achieved to sink in.
He said: "It's a brilliant feeling to win the F3 Cup title. It hasn't sunk in yet, it has been a long year but for me it's been great. The F3 Cup has been absolutely fantastic this year and it will be even better next year so hopefully I can win it again. I've got to say a big thanks to everyone involved in organising the F3 Cup.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity of an FIA Formula Two test drive. Hopefully I can show what I can do in the car and enjoy the experience. It is a chance to prove how quick I can be and it's also about learning another car which is always useful when running a team."
Dittmann, who will field a car in next year's BRDC F4 Championship, is likely to feature on the grid in F3 Cup next season hoping to defend his crown.
